Waffle Shop & Museums

The next day, it was time to enjoy some breakfast and enjoy more touristy things. I headed to Lincoln’s Waffle Shop located on the historic 10th street NW in downtown. It is said that Abraham Lincoln was a regular here and ordered waffles with scrambled eggs and bacon every day.

Breakfast at Lincoln’s Waffle Shop

The casual eatery offers basic breakfast items at affordable prices. I was tempted to order the scrapple since I’ve never had it before. The block of pork scraps and trimmings combined with cornmeal, wheat flour and spices is sliced then pan-fried. I actually ended up ordering a side of it after my waffle with bacon and eggs. I had to try it! Breakfast was simple and good.

I wanted to check out a few Smithsonian museums. I went to the National Museum of Natural History and the National Museum of American History. I felt like a kid on a field trip!

Berlin Wall

I was pretty much museum-ed out for the day. I headed to the The National Archives Building located north of the National Mall on Constitution Ave. Inside are the original copies of three very important documents of the United States and its government – the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. It also hosts a copy of the 1297 Magna Carta.

National Archives

The documents are displayed to the public in the main chamber, which is called the Rotunda for the Charters of Freedom. The wait time was only around 20 minutes. As I was leaving, there were many more people in line. I lucked out with the fairly short waiting time. If you’re looking for things to do while in DC, the museums and National Archives Building should be on your list.
