Bischoff’s Ice Cream

After a satisfying Colombian lunch, we decided to try Bischoff’s since it was right across the street. Sorry tres leches cake, I’ll have to try you another time. We couldn’t help but notice several people entering and leaving the place. This unassuming ice cream shop has been around since 1934. The locals seem to love it. You don’t see many places like this anymore. We had to try it.

We walked in and noticed the simple old school style of the place. I’m sure nothing much has changed. The candy counter was on the right and the ice cream counter was on the left. They have a small dining area towards the back where a server can take your order. We decided to order at the register and sit at the counter.

There’s no glass display case here. The ice cream, toppings, and sauces are all kept in covered metal containers. They also offer various flavored pints and ice cream cakes for purchase.

All your classic and typical ice cream flavors are available. You won’t find anything fancy here. It was pretty cool to watch them make shakes, floats, and sundaes the way they did decades ago.

Ice Cream Flavors

The guys behind the counter are wearing the old fashioned outfit of a white shirt, white pants, and a bow tie. They’ll even have the hats on if you’re lucky.

We tried a medium cone with a scoop of pistachio and chocolate swiss almond. We appreciated the fairly generous scoops.

I ordered one of my favorite flavors, chocolate chip cookie dough, in a small cup. It was rich and creamy. Much better quality than those big ice cream chains. I also liked the mini chocolate chips instead of those large chunks you usually get.

I’m glad we stopped by Bischoff’s for dessert. The decor was nothing special and the service was alright, but the classic old school feel and quality ice cream treats are worth a try. I’ll be back for a sundae or shake.
