Lunch at Nara Thai Cusine

While we were right next to one of the most luxurious shopping malls in Bangkok, there was another mega mall not too far away. We took the Skytrain and headed to CentralWorld, another large shopping plaza and complex in the city. It is the tenth largest mall in the world.

All the stores and shopping options were tempting, but we were here for the food! We took the elevator all the way up to the top. After looking over the restaurant options on the seventh floor, we decided to have lunch at Nara Thai Cuisine. It looked nice and we weren’t tired of Thai food quite yet.

The space had high ceilings and the decor was zen-like. We were seated at a table towards the back of the restaurant. It actually seemed to be the busiest restaurant on the entire floor at the time.

I ordered a coconut smoothie and really enjoyed it. It was a bit thicker and creamier than the usual coconut juice, and very refreshing.

We decided to share a few dishes. We started off with an appetizer of fried taro root. It was light and crispy, and served with a tasty tamarind and peanut sauce.

We actually managed to stay away from the pad thai and ordered pad see ew instead. Tofu was the protein and it was good. The noodles were nice and soft.

Another dish my sister recommended was the pomelo salad. I can’t recall if I had this citrus fruit before. I’m sure our mom bought it in the past, but it would have been years ago. The flesh of the fruit is white and similar to a grapefruit. It is not as sour though. It was fresh and slightly sweet. It was topped with some sauce, crushed peanuts, and Thai chili peppers.

Our lunch was almost entirely vegan, but the menu’s picture of the moo krob phad prik caught my eye. The dish consists of stir-fried pork belly slices with chili and ginger. The pork was tender with a slight crunch from the crispy skin. It was good with the spicy chili sauce.

Lunch was really good and we enjoyed all our dishes. It wasn’t the best Thai food, but it was still tasty. Prices weren’t bad either. The ambiance was pleasant and the service was just fine.
