The Real Austin Tour with Austin Detours

After a late first night and getting up early the next morning to head to Franklin’s Barbecue, I was more than ready for a quick nap after that hearty barbecue lunch. I was tired, but how could I not explore more of this city? The lovely people I met in line even insisted I take a tour with them, but I passed believing I would just head back to the hotel to rest for a bit.

So I changed my mind. I quickly looked into general tours of Austin and found out about Austin Detours. Their Real Austin Tour offers an overview of the city with a couple stops in just 2 hours -  perfect! I immediately called them and was lucky enough to grab the last spot for their 1:30pm tour.

First Stop

The tour only cost $35 and began at the Austin Visitor Center which wasn’t too far from Franklin’s. Our tour guide, Jason, made sure everybody was present before showing us to the nice Mercedes van. We saw a couple major landmarks, hidden gems, and drove through various neighborhoods. We even stopped for a nice little treat at a famous food truck. Jason was full of energy and had lots of of information about Austin’s music, art, history, and culture.

Our other major stop was Graffiti Park, also known as the Hope Outdoor Gallery. What a cool sight! The public and various artists create colorful graffiti art and murals.

We couldn’t explore Austin without stopping by one of the many food trucks in town. We had a delicious little treat from Torchy’s Tacos.

The tour was short, sweet, and informative. Jason was an excellent guide and shared plenty of fun facts and interesting history about Austin. I highly recommend Austin Detours if you’re in town. They also offer a Live Music Crawl and a BBQ & Winery Tour. Thank you, Jason!
