A Turkish Dinner at Toros

Almost forgot to post photos of the Turkish dinner we had at Toros in Clifton, New Jersey for dad’s birthday. We wanted to try something new and Turkish cuisine has a nice variety of foods and flavors that we don’t experience that often.

For appetizers, we started off with the Babaganus which is a tasty mash of pureed smoked eggplant with garlic and sesame oil.

The Kalamar Tava was tender and crispy. The fried calamari was served with a garlic walnut sauce.

My sister ordered the Sebzeli Guvec, a vegetable dish consisting of green beans, zucchini, potatoes, and bell peppers baked with tomatoes and carrots in an earthenware casserole dish.

I had the Sis & Doner, a combination plate of shish kebab (skewered meat) and doner kebab (seasoned meat cooked on a vertical rotisserie). It was served with rice and a grilled tomato.

The meat was good, but it just need a little something like a sauce to dip in for a bit more flavor.

Dad enjoyed the Levrek, a broiled Mediterranean Branzino seasoned with house special spices.

For dessert, we tried the Sutlac – an oven baked rice pudding made with fresh whole milk and chilled before serving. The pudding was made in a clay pot which is the traditional bowl to serve the Turkish dessert.

Dad had some Turkish coffee served in a beautiful silver coffee set.

My sister and I also wanted some lemon sorbet. A refreshing way to end the meal. The lemons were huge!

Dinner at Toros was nice. The food was pretty tasty and the service was just fine.
