Burlesque, Blues, and Honky Tonks

What did I do for my final night in Nashville? Some bar hopping of course! 😉 After a creative Indian dinner, I walked back towards downtown to check out Printers Alley. The famous alley located between Union and Church Street first became a nightclub district in the 1940s.

Downtown Nashville

The name comes from Nashville’s connection to the printing and publishing industries. The alley was home to two major newspapers, 10 print shops, and several publishers. By the 1960s, Nashville was home to over 36 printing companies.

First stop was Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie Bar for a couple drinks and live music. The Mardi Gras-themed music club presents live blues 7 nights per week.

Blues

I met a fellow female solo traveler who was in town for a conference. She suggested going next door to Skull’s Rainbow Room for their nightly burlesque. Sounds good to me.

Skull’s Rainbow Room

Formerly known as the Rainbow Room, the owner was David “Skull” Schulman.

It use to be an exotic dance club that “Skull” eventually converted to a country bar in the 1990s. It was the only venue in Nashville that had a live band performing music for its dancers. Schulman was tragically killed one night in 1998 and the place didn’t reopen until 2015.

You can now find two of Shulman’s jackets framed and displayed on the wall. The original checkerboard stage is still in use.

The place was packed, the cocktails were great, and the burlesque performers were awesome.

Great Performers

After a great time at a couple Printer Alley bars, we went to Broadway for some honky tonk shenanigans. First we went to Nudie’s Honky Tonk and then I found myself back at Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge once again. Good times!

My final night in Nashville was a blast! I was heading back home the next day, but still had time for breakfast and more sightseeing before the airport.
