Taipa Houses and Egg Tarts

Along Avenida da Praia in Taipa, you’ll find the Taipa Houses Museum. The museum complex consists of five old houses each displaying various artifacts and exhibits.

The colonial houses showcasing Portuguese architecture were constructed in 1921.

I walked up and down the sidewalk admiring the pastel green houses and various people using them for their official photo ops.

After the Taipa houses, I walked around Rua do Cunha (Cunha Street) for a bit.

The narrow pedestrian street in the town center of Taipa is filled with food vendors, snack shops, cafes, and gift stores.

Fanny made sure I had a must-eat item while I was Macau – an egg custard tart. The most famous place to enjoy one is Lord Stow’s Bakery. She even made sure I went to the original location in Coloane.

Lord Stow's Bakery

The Original Lord Stow’s Bakery

The iconic bakery was founded in Coloane in 1989 by Englishman Andrew Stow. During a trip to Portugal, Andrew became familiar with their popular Pasteis de Nata. He ended up creating his own unique egg tart recipe that became the signature Macau delicacy.

Pasteis de Nata

Now Lord Stow’s can be found all throughout Asia. The silky smooth sweet custard filling in a flaky buttery handheld crust was absolutely delicious.

Egg Tart

Nothing wrong with a little snack before dinner. It was time to head over to the Portuguese restaurant!
