Shimokitazawa

After enjoying some incredible ramen in the comfort of my own private booth, we briefly stopped by our hotel for a bit then made our way to Shimokitazawa.

The subway system in Tokyo can be extremely confusing and many line maps are only in Japanese. I downloaded the JapanTravel app which helped tremendously with which lines to take and how much to pay.

Train to Shimokitazawa

Shimokitazawa, or Shimokita, is a bohemian neighborhood filled with vintage clothing shops, cafes, theaters, and live music venues. The small funky hipster town is very popular with young people. It’s like the Williamsburg of Tokyo.

While my sister browsed one of the many vintage shops, I spotted some New Jersey Devils merchandise in a couple stores. Nice!

I’ll always remember Shimokitazawa for their trendy shops and the most delicious donut I’ve ever had!

On the way back to the station, we saw Captain’s Donut.

The lady just took out a batch from the fryer. She ran the show making and flipping each donut herself.

Fryer

It was still warm when she handed it to me. It was perfectly fried crisp on the outside without being greasy. It was soft and moist on the inside. Yummmmm.

Best. Donut. Ever.

I’m so glad I decided to get that donut before we caught the train back. My sister bought some rice crackers from a shop we passed by.

It was nice to walk around Shimokitazawa for a bit. The small hipster neighborhood is worth checking out. Be sure to stop by Captain’s Donut as well.

It was time to go our separate ways, my sister wanted to try another vegan place and I went to Shinigawa to fulfill my Mario Kart dreams!
