Dinner at Bestia

I was out all day cruising around Los Angeles and after relaxing at the apartment for a bit, it was time to get ready for my final night in LA. I decided to head to Bestia for an Italian dinner. The trendy restaurant located in an industrial space in the Arts District from a husband and wife team features rustic Italian food focused on a “from scratch” approach.

When I walked in, the place was packed, busy, and vibrant. I didn’t have a reservation, but luckily scored a single seat at the chef’s counter. Perfect! I happen to sit next to a lovely woman who was also dining solo and happen to be from New Jersey. I was in the mood for a glass of red wine. My server, Melanie, was super nice and helpful with the menu.

I was set on having some pizza, but decided to start with the Lobster Crostino first. The slice of toasted bread was topped with squid ink aioli, chunks of lobster, pickled chilies, opal basil, and citrus. It was beautiful and scrumptious.

It was time for that pizza fix. I went with the classic Margherita made with San Marzano tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil, olive oil, and sea salt. It was excellent.

The handmade pizzas are made in an Acunto wood-fired oven straight from Naples.

Dinner was great, so I had to try a dessert. I decided to try the Zabaglione al Moscato. The tasty refreshing dessert featured a brown sugar pine nut meringue topped with blood orange sorbet and candied orange peel surrounded by a moscato-spiked light whipped custard.

I loved my dinner at Bestia. The food was delicious, the service was incredible, and the ambience was energetic. Thanks, Melanie! Before calling it a night, I enjoyed a couple more drinks near the apartment, then I caught up on some much needed sleep. I was off to San Jose the next day!
