Brunch, Andy Warhol, and Heinz Ketchup

It was my second day in Pittsburgh and I wanted to have breakfast and check out a couple museums. The previous night was all about pasta, crudo, and cocktails. Now I was off to Or, The Whale located inside the historic Salvation Army building.

I ended up going through the Distrikt Hotel’s lobby and eventually found the door that led to the downtown seafood restaurant. I was happy to see that they serve a daily brunch from 11am to 2pm. I was seated at a table downstairs near the kitchen.

I ordered a mimosa and went over the brunch menu. A couple dishes immediately caught my attention.

The first dish was the Savory Bubble Waffle – a corn meal bubble waffle topped with bacon, sausage, crisp potatoes, a fried egg, hollandaise, and Paul Family Farms’ maple syrup. It was a great brunch dish combo with the mildly sweet waffle and syrup, saltier bacon, and rich hollandaise.

The other dish was the Eggs Chesapeake. A housemade English muffin topped with crab cakes, poached eggs, and old bay hollandaise. I liked the crab cakes, but the English muffin was bit too toasted. It was served with a nice farm greens salad on the side.

A couple brunch dishes were more than enough for me. The food was good and service was okay.

Afterwards I went to The Andy Warhol Museum to see the extensive art collection of one of my favorite artists – Pittsburgh-born pop art icon, Andy Warhol. It’s the largest museum in North America dedicated to a single artist.

The museum was awesome and after walking over the Andy Warhol Bridge, I stopped by another museum.

Pittsburgh Weekend

The Senator John Heinz History Center is Pennsylvania’s largest history museum & an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution. You’ll discover 250 years of Pittsburgh history and learn more about one of America’s most beloved companies, Heinz. (Yes, the famous ketchup brand!). There’s also the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum located on the second and third floors. I thought the History Center was really cool and definitely worth checking out.
