Leaving Stockholm: The Burgundy and Slingerbulten

The majority of my day was spent checking out a few of Stockholm’s popular attractions and my Euro trip was winding down, so for my final night I made an appointment to use the hotel’s sauna. The woman at the front desk walked me to the basement where the sauna was along with a changing area, bathroom, shower, and cold plunge pool. I had it all to myself for the next couple hours. Nice!

After my private sauna session, I decided to have dinner at one of Victory Hotel’s restaurants, The Burgundy. The wine bistro and bar was open later than the other places and it had a nice cozy ambiance.

I sat at the bar and started with a glass of red wine and steak tartare. Good stuff!

I decided to order the weekly special – the pastrami sandwich had slices of smoked brisket on French bread with sauerkraut, pickles, and Dijonnaise with a side of potato chips and a pickle. It was pretty damn good. I also tried another red wine the cool bartender recommended.

I hung out and chatted with the bartenders and a fellow customer for a bit before heading up to my room.

The following morning I checked out of the wonderful Victory Hotel, stored my luggage at the front desk, and went out for one last meal. Slingerbulten was nearby and was the perfect casual spot for a traditional Swedish meal.

They had a few lunch specials that included a drink, salad, and bread. I went with the fried Baltic herring with butter, lingonberries, and mashed potatoes. A tasty classic to conclude my time in Stockholm.

After my classic Swedish meal and walking around Gamla Stan for a bit, it was time to head to Stockholm Arlanda Airport.

I had a layover in Oslo, Norway for a couple hours which gave me plenty of time to grab a braised chicken bun from Roasted, one of the food trucks in the colorful Food Truck Festival food court.

After hanging out in the food court for a bit and some very thorough questioning at the gate, it was time to board my flight back home. Sweden was so nice. It was such an incredible trip, Europe! I’m so glad I decided to head back after going to Asia the previous couple of years. Amazing times! I was already looking forward to my two trips the following month!
