I like Houston’s, I really do. The quality ingredients and reasonable prices of the chain restaurant make it a top contender when looking for a good meal. The relaxed ambiance and consistent service is always nice too. I’ve been to the Hackensack location several times.
One of my favorite dishes is the Hawaiian Ribeye. This grilled steak packs a lot of flavor thanks to the ginger soy pineapple marinade.
The Roasted Prime Rib is aged and slow roasted on the bone. It’s served with their cream whipped potatoes and vegetable of the day. You also get a cup of that tasty au jus. I prefer mine medium rare. Yes, it’s a perfect medium rare and it was delicious.
The Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes are pan-fried and served over pommery mustard with a side of french fries and coleslaw. They had a perfect sear and the lumps were clearly visible.
My dad enjoyed the Veggie Burger made with their signature recipe with sweet soy glaze and melted Monterey jack. It was served with a side Tabbouleh, a Levantine vegetarian dish made of tomatoes, finely chopped parsley, mint, bulgur and onion seasoned with olive oil, lemon juice, and salt.
There are only a few dessert, but they’re done well. The Apple Walnut Cobbler is served warm with pecans, cinnamon, sugar, and a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Whether it’s dinner, lunch, or happy hour, I always consider Houston’s an option when I’m in the mood for simple tasty food.
Their house grilled artichokes are great. They’re served with a creamy remoulade sauce dipping.
You can’t go wrong with the Warm Five-Nut Brownie. The chocolate brownie is made with chopped walnuts, pecans, peanuts, macadamia nuts, and almonds, and drizzled with a sweet caramel sauce. Yum.
