I caught an early Amtrak Express down to Washington DC. It would be my first time in our nation’s capital. I arrived at Union Station after a few hours and caught a taxi straight to the Washington Hilton. I checked in, dropped my luggage off in the room, and made my way to the hotel bar for a drink. Never hurts to have a drink before your meal, and it’s usually the social hub of fellow conference attendees.
I had a local IPA and met some nice attendees from all over the country. After a bit, it was time to walk around and look for a place to have lunch. I was staying in the Dupont Circle area and came upon Bar Dupont. How appropriate.
Bar Dupont is located inside The Dupont Circle Hotel. The bar specializes in cocktails and signature drinks, and I noticed they had a happy hour.
I sat at one of the nice comfy leather chairs at the bar. I do not remember the name of the cocktail ordered, but it was a refreshing ow made with vodka, fresh strawberries, and lime juice.
For my meal, I went with the Truffled Chicken Sandwich. It was a grilled chicken breast topped with apple wood smoked bacon, tomato, lettuce, and truffle aioli. It came with a fry basket of fries on the side.
Lunch was good and I was full. I wandered around the area more. DC’s metro system was really clean, safe and reliable. It was so convenient being near Dupont Circle Station. I used it every single day.
I decided to book a monuments tour. There are a lot of them, but I thought seeing them at night would be really cool. Something a little different. I booked “DC Under the Stars” with Signature Tours. The tours are rain or shine. There was a light drizzle here and there, but it wasn’t a big deal. We met near the Old Post Office, boarded the shuttle bus, and off we went!
Here are some pics from the tour…
The tour lasted about 3 hours and we saw several attractions and monuments. The guide was great and explained as much as he could to us. I highly recommend it.
