It was time for 311’s summer concert tour! Last year, they played in the city, this year they played at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park. I have not been to Asbury Park in years and heard about all the good restaurants and bars lined along the streets. One of those places is the Brickwall Tavern & Dining Room.
The restaurant offers American fare, comfort food, craft beers, and a raw bar. We headed down early to enjoy some lunch and drinks before the show.
We ordered the Iron Skillet Jalapeno Popper Dip. It’s cheddar and cream cheese melted in an iron skillet with roasted jalapenos served with torilla chips. It was similar to artichoke dip, but slightly spicy thanks to the jalapenos.
I also wanted to try the Spam Fries. Don’t judge.
It really was just spam sliced into thin wedges and fried. It’s served with a side of ketchup. I honestly thought this would be like the spam fries I had at Maharlika where they actually breaded the spam and then fried it. Now those were addicting. Oh well.
The beers on tap are always changing. We tried a saison and an IPA. Both were very good.
For the main dish, we tried the Burger Burger. It’s two 4oz special blend patties, Land O’Lakes White American cheese, sliced pickles, and pan-friend onions. All burgers are served with homemade chips and pickles.
I ordered the Filet Mignon Sandwich. It’s a 5oz filet topped with frizzled onions and melted bleu cheese crumbles served on a Martin’s potato roll.
I ordered it with a side of tator tots for an additional charge.
It was cooked a perfect medium rare like I requested. The filet was tender and juicy. My only complaint would be that the bleu cheese was overpowering. It was too potent for the filet mignon that I actually scraped some of it off. The sandwich would have been perfect with a milder cheese like provolone. The tots were nice and crispy.
My friends arrived soon after and we all headed to the Beer Garden located next door. They have a great selection of beers and offer a small selection of food. It was about a 10 minute walk to The Stone Pony Summer Stage from there. Time for 311!
After the show, we actually returned to Brickwall Tavern for more food and drinks. This time we just shared the Fried Chicken Cutlet BLT. It’s topped with bacon, lettuce, tomato, and a chipotle mayo.
It was pretty good. The chicken cutlet is pretty thin, so it lacked in juiciness. We went with the tator tots as a side again.
Brickwall is a good place to grab some hearty food and craft brews before heading over to The Stone Pony for a show. The oysters and clams from the raw bar looked good too.
