Another morning in Austin and a full day ahead of me to enjoy this great city. First things first, it was time for breakfast. I wanted breakfast tacos, more specifically, I wanted migas breakfast tacos. There are a bunch of places to get these iconic tacos, but many are convinced that Veracruz All Natural makes the best ones in town.
I grabbed a ride with Fare and headed to the original trailer location, owned by sisters Reyna and Maritza, who grew up in Veracruz, Mexico. They moved to Austin after graduating high school and decided to stay for good. In 2008, their tiny trailer sold smoothies, snow cones, and natural drinks. After gaining popularity, they started making tacos and tortas.
Now in a larger trailer, they specialize in fresh and authentic tacos and salsas. Their tortillas and chips are homemade and everything is made with the freshest ingredients.
The rest of the menu sounded really good, but I was here for those migas breakfast tacos! What is a migas taco? It’s eggs, monterey jack cheese, pico de gallo, avocado, and crispy tortilla chips piled on a freshly made tortilla.
You’ll want an agua fresca with your tacos, a refreshing beverage of fruit blended with water and sugar. They have a variety of flavors including mango, pineapple, watermelon, orange, strawberry, cucumber, and cantaloupe. It was a toss up between the cantaloupe and watermelon. The watermelon was delicious and not too sweet.
There’s a small table near the pick-up window where you’ll find their homemade salsa and sauces to enjoy with your tacos. All of them were very tasty, but I really enjoyed the green one which had a spicy kick to it.
There are a few tables for you to sit and savor your meal. With my agua fresca and sauces laid out, I was ready to dig into my very first migas taco.
All I can say is, YUM! Now I’ve had breakfast tacos before, but these were so much better. The crunch of the tortilla chips and savory avocado really make the difference. The fluffy eggs, melted cheese, and fresh pico de gallo were a heavenly combination. They were simply amazing.
If you’re in town, don’t miss your chance to try a migas taco. I highly recommend Veracruz All Natural to satisfy your breakfast taco fix, along with the refreshing aguas frescas and other menu offerings. Sometimes there’s a dish that leaves a lasting impression and I seriously dream about the day I’ll be able to enjoy it again. Thank you, Veracruz!
