For my first night in Detroit, I made my way over to Parc. The New American restaurant is located in the re-established Campus Martius Park downtown, only a 5-minute walk from my hotel. The urban park is a nice little area with a fountain, trees, and various activities and events throughout the year.
Opening last November, the highly anticipated restaurant was a great addition to Detroit’s up-and-coming dining scene.
The place was trendy and chic. The state-of-the-art venue is surround by big window walls creating an open and lively atmosphere with views of the fountain and downtown Detroit.
I made a reservation online and was immediately seated at a table facing the fountain. They also set aside a portion of seats for walk-ins.
My server, Tara, was super friendly and helpful with the menu. I started things off with a tasty cocktail. Cheers, Detroit!
Soon after ordering, I gave a heads up that I would like the complimentary bread. A generous serving of the warm soft bread with whipped butter came out and it was so good. Be sure to ask for it if it is not offered.
For an appetizer, I decided to try the Tuna Tartare.
The tartare had capers, dill, honey Dijon mustard, microgreens, and a quail egg. It was really fresh and savory. It was topped with crispy hand cut potato chips. Excellent.
As it got darker, the fountain began glowing outside. I really enjoyed watching it while I was eating. I haven’t even been in the city for very long and was already pleasantly surprised by it.
I wanted a glass of white wine to go with my main course and they were very helpful with suggesting a couple.
For the main course, I went with the King Crab Tagliatelle. It was made with housemade tagliatelle pasta, baby fennel, crab crema, toasted garlic, and butter roasted Alaskan king crab. I mean how good does that sound? It was delicious! The pasta was cooked perfectly. The sauce was delightful and not too heavy.
The food was great so far, so I couldn’t leave without trying a dessert. Everything on the dessert menu sound fabulous as well.
I decided to get the Lemon and Olive Oil Cake. It had lemon curd, blueberry compote, mascarpone, and olive oil gelato. Yum! It had just the right amount of sweetness without being overwhelming. It was a nice and refreshing way to end the meal.
My dinner at Parc was amazing. I loved the ambiance and open space with large windows. The food was fantastic and the service was outstanding. This is one restaurant you should not miss! It made for such a great first night in Detroit.
