Want a fast and reasonably priced meal? Craving Filipino food? Then you’ll want to check out a Turo-Turo restaurant, a dining concept developed in the Philippines. One such place is Tropical Hut in Hackensack, New Jersey.

Tropical Hut (Hackensack)
Turo-turo means “point point” in Tagalog. Walk in and you’ll find various dishes on display where you just point at what you would like and a generous spoonful of that dish is placed on your plate. The selection varies from day to day.

Food Display
You can make a full meal with combination plates where you get a choice of 2 or 3 dishes with a side of rice. Choices, choices.

Combination Meals
In addition to the great authentic food, you can find a small selection of snacks near the counter as well.

Snacks
You pay for everything at the cashier at the end of the display. Don’t forget to grab a drink from the fridge or maybe even dessert.

Fast and Tasty
The place is small and only has a few tables, seat yourself and enjoy your meal. Turo-turo restaurants offer fast service and make a great option for lunch. You can get an order to-go as well where everything is packed into individual foam and deli containers. There’s also party trays for your next family get-together.

Lechon Kawali and Baked Bangus
We ordered the fried bangus (milkfish) and pinakbet, a vegetable stew made with shrimp paste. As an alternative to rice, there may be fried rice or pancit (noodles). The food is simple and tasty. Filipino comfort food at it’s best.

Fried Bangus and Pinakbet
Had to grab a Halo-Halo for dessert!
