I am not a morning person, but whenever I travel to a new city I have to look for a good breakfast spot. Just a short walk from the hotel, I spotted a small crowd outside the Hen House Eatery.
The popular cafe serves locally sourced breakfast and lunch classics. They also offer sweet treats from their bakery, happy hour tapas, and gluten-free options. Everything is homemade.
The place was full, but I managed to grab a seat at the counter.
There’s a nice selection of breakfast cocktails. It’s never too early for a drink! I had the Hen Crossing, a refreshing pick-me-up made with Prairie Organic Cucumber Vodka, fresh basil, ginger, lime juice, and a splash of soda.
The breakfast sandwiches, omelets, and benedicts all sounded really good. I kept it simple though and went with Two Eggs with Hash Browns and Chorizo.
Gotta have some hot sauce ready.
The eggs were perfectly cooked over medium, the hash browns were crispy, and the chorizo patty was tasty. It was all made even better with some hot sauce.
The toast was buttered and came with a fantastic homemade strawberry jam.
Breakfast at Hen House was lovely. Service was great. I can see why so many people come here to start their day. Even if you’re not a morning person, they serve breakfast all day.
It was a beautiful sunny day and I wanted to check out a couple parks, the state fair, and a brewery!
