It was a Tuesday night in Minneapolis and I was craving pasta and wine. I made my way to the “Warehouse District” to have dinner at Bar La Grassa. The acclaimed Italian restaurant led by Chef Issac Becker of 112 Eatery offers small plates, pastas, and an extensive wine list.
It was full and bustling on a Tuesday night. I was seated at the end of the long counter overlooking all the action of the open kitchen.
In addition to some wine and pasta, I also wanted to try a couple other items for an appetizer.
I was given a small complimentary bowl of white beans, cauliflower, and sliced chilis in olive oil. It was a tasty start to the meal.
You’re also given a basket of warm garlic bread with butter. Nice.
I was in the mood for red wine and ordered a glass of Pinot Noir.
I decided to try a Bruschetta. I went with the Soft Eggs & Lobster which had a pile of super soft buttery eggs and chunks of tender lobster piled on top of a grilled piece of baguette and topped with chives. It was wonderful!
It was the type of scrambled eggs I dream about.
I also tried the Seared Sea Scallops with Chanterelles and Sweet Corn. It may have been a bit pricey for just a couple scallops, but they were a decent size and delicious.
They were perfectly seared and very tender.
It was time to get ready for the main dish. I ordered another glass of red wine.
All the pastas sounded so good and I wanted to try a few, but I was already getting pretty full. It was nice to see that they offer half portions. I went with the Mushroom & Taleggio Agnolotti.
The agnolotti was excellent! The savory cheese-filled pasta topped with caramelized onions and the flavorful nutty chanterelles was incredible. The portion was perfect.
I didn’t leave any room for dessert unfortunately, but a delicious bite of salted chocolate appeared and it was a lovely way to conclude the meal.
Dinner at Bar La Grassa was superb. The service was great and I liked the bustling atmosphere. I always love being seated at the counter overlooking the kitchen. The food was fantastic and I wouldn’t hesitate to come back to try their other pastas and small plates.
