It was my final night in the “Motor City” and I decided to have dinner at Selden Standard. The New American restaurant focuses on seasonal and locally sourced small plates.
I was seated at the end of the Chef’s Counter. We all know how much I love counter seating where you can watch the food being made.
The menu also offers beer, wine, and craft cocktails. I forgot the name of the drink I ordered, but it was definitely a sipping cocktail. It was tasty and strong.
I ordered a couple dishes. I started off with the Stuffed Squid.
The tender squid was filled with green chorizo and served over black beans with some chili oil, radish, red onion, and fava beans.
The second dish was the Lamb Ragu made with lumache, Kalamata olives, tomato, and parmesan.
The shell-shaped pasta was cooked perfectly and the lamb ragu was delicious. I’m not even a big fan a lamb or olives, but I enjoyed this dish.
Dinner was good and I wasn’t about to head back to the hotel just yet. While I was waiting for my Uber, I was treated to quite the show. Apparently this guy dances to music for hours outside the restaurant. He’s been doing it for quite some time and lost a lot of weight. Good for him! Keep it up!
