After a delightful pizza dinner, my mom insisted that we all swing by Jolibee to bring home even more food. We were plenty full, but we were already in Jersey City which is their only location in New Jersey. I haven’t been to the popular Filipino fast food chain since visiting the Philippines when I was 12. So sure, why not.
They offer comforting well-loved Filipino dishes like spaghetti with hot dog, Yum Burgers, halo-halo, and the beloved Chickenjoy – Jolibee’s seasoned fried chicken.
We walked up to the counter to place our order. We decided to get Bucket Treat Combo B which included a 6-piece Chickenjoy bucket, dipping Gravy, a Jolly Spaghetti family pack, and 3 Peach Mango Pies. I also wanted to try their Chicken Dippers. Mom decided to get a Halo-Halo as well.
We were given a pager and took a seat at one of the tables. Only 5 minutes passed by before the pager started vibrating. I walked up to the counter which was occupied by several other to-go orders and spotted our bag of food.
The food was warm and my sister and I couldn’t resist splitting a Peach Mango Pie. The fried handheld pie is filled with a sweet peach mango filling and it is oh so good.
I had to check out the rest of the spread. The Chickenjoy had a crispy coating and the meat was tender. It’s what their best known for! The chicken comes with a savory brown gravy for dipping. The Chicken Dippers are a boneless strip version and came with gravy and white rice. Gotta have rice!
The Jolly Spaghetti has hot dog slices and a red sauce that’s on the sweeter side. It’s also topped with shredded cheese. It may sound weird, but it’s a tasty nostalgic dish for many Filipinos.
Mom enjoyed the Halo-Halo, a popular Filipino dessert made with shaved ice, milk, and fruit. The Jolibee version has condensed milk, ube syrup, adzuki beans, sugar palm fruit, nata de coco (coconut water jelly pieces), small scoops of ube ice cream, mango ice cream, and a piece of leche flan (caramel custard dessert).
It was quite a bit of food and I only tried a little bit. Mom was set for the next few days. I was all about those peach mango pies though. If we ever crave Jolibee again, we can also check out the recently opened Manhattan location in Times Square.
