I’m always looking for good barbecue places, so after a few recommendations, we decided to have lunch at Fink’s BBQ Smokehouse in Dumont. This casual barbecue joint serves pit-smoked meats, Southern dishes, signature sides, cocktails, and desserts.
They had some boozy drinks available. I tried the Texas Tea. It’s house-brewed tea with simple syrup, Sweet Carolina Sweet Tea vodka, and a lemon slice. It was nice and strong.
We started off with some Porkenfries for our appetizer. A pile of seasoned fries smothered with pulled pork, melted cheddar and muenster cheeses, sour cream, and scallions.
It was delicious! The pulled pork and cheese over the seasoned fries made up a pile of salty cheesy goodness. It would definitely make the perfect hangover meal!
For our entrees, we each ordered the Pit Sampler. It comes with spareribs (beef ribs are not available until dinner), chopped beef, and pulled pork for $19.95. You can make it a meal and add two sides for an additional $4.95, so we did. We very well could have shared one, they were pretty big portions.
My sides included the stuffing and their famous cornbread soufflé. The stuffing was pretty good.
The cornbread soufflé was fantastic. It’s super moist and stays warm in the ceramic soufflé dish. I can see why it’s their most popular side.
We also tried the coleslaw topped with crispy bacon bits. Not bad.
The pulled pork was pretty dense and had some good flavor. The spare ribs had great flavor, sweet and slightly smokey. They were not as tender as the ones I had in San Antonio, but I have a feeling it will be hard to find fall off the bone ribs like that again. I really wanted to try the beef ribs, but I’ll have to return for dinner another time.
The beef cubes were nice and tender. Everything went great with the tasty barbecue sauce provided.
We weren’t able to finish our pit samplers and saved the leftovers. It was my lunch for the next two days!
We managed to save room for dessert and tried the Brownie Sundae. It was warm and the center was slightly underdone which made it perfect with the cold vanilla ice cream.
I really liked Fink’s and it makes for a solid barbecue meal. It’s nice to see some good barbecue closeby in Bergen County. I wish they had beef brisket, but it’s hardly missed with all the delectable appetizers, entrees, and sides they offer. Give it a try!
