It was Tuesday morning and time to leave Seoul. I caught the train back to Incheon Airport. It was a bout a 6-hour flight to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport.
I didn’t go with the bibimbap for my in-flight meal this time. I had the beef and noddles. Eh, it was alright. At least you could have all the wine you wanted!
I was really excited to check out Bangkok. Not only has it been forever since I’ve been to southeast Asia, it’s been almost 20 years since my sister and I have been on vacation together. I met her at our hotel, Retro 39. I unpacked a bit and settled in. The hotel is located on Sukhumvit Road in the financial district. The nice thing about this area was that the BTS Skytrain was right next to us, making it easy to explore different areas of Bangkok.
We were trying to figure out where to eat. Surprise, surprise. She mentioned that there was a really nice mall a minute away. The super luxurious mall, EmQuartier, was located very close to our hotel. Another section of the mall called The Emporium had a really nice food court too. We decided to check out the options there.
If you take the escalator up a floor from the food court, you’ll see the food hall filled with more food stalls, a gourmet grocery store, and additional dining options. There are many restaurants located in the other sections of the EmQuartier as well.
We decided to have dinner at a restaurant right down the street from the hotel. It looked good and authentic. The prices were extremely reasonable. We sat at a table and looked over the menu. Cars and bikes we passing through the small street and the waitress waited for a clearing to run across and take our order.
Everything looked good, but we had to try the Pad Thai. It would be the first of many plates of pad Thai throughout our trip. I ordered mine with chicken and my sister had tofu. The pad Thai was very good and only cost around $1.25. Not bad at all.
Dinner was tasty and we were ready to call it a night. I needed to catch up on some sleep. We had lots to do the following day with a temples tour in the morning and a food tour at night.
