A dinner out with my sister means going to a vegan-friendly restaurant. We went to Veggie Heaven in Teaneck one Friday night. I remember going to the Montclair location years ago where we enjoyed all the vegan Chinese dishes.
There was a time when the thought of a vegan meal would cause utter disappointment, but it’s all been tasty so far and I always look forward to trying something new.
We got things started with the Thai Iced Tea made with organic soy milk. It was still perfectly sweetened and refreshing.
The menu has a huge selection of vegan dishes. In addition to Chinese fare, they also offer Japanese, Thai, Malaysian, Mexican, and American dishes, all made with an array of healthy ingredients to simulate the taste and appearance of your favorite meals.
The Szechuan Dumplings were served in a chili sauce. The “meat” and “seafood” is made from a blend of bean curd, taro root, wheat gluten, yams, mushrooms, and other vegetables.
Shout out to the guy giving the peace sign behind us.
I was excited to see a list of sushi rolls on the menu. Even after reading the descriptions, we wondered how they could make it vegan. The Spicy Tuna Roll was topped with avocado and vegan spicy mayo.
It wasn’t bad at all. The “tuna” filling had the consistency and look of cooked tuna.
Mom was in the mood for some fries, so we ordered the Yam Fries.
It was time to order our main dishes. We went with the Singapore Chow Mee Fun, pan-fried rice noodles tossed with vegetables, chicken, and beef. It’s also one of many gluten free choices.
We also had the Pork Fried Rice and Crispy Garlic Chicken.
Everything was cooked well and very tasty. You don’t really miss the meat, I promise.
We couldn’t leave without trying dessert. They have a solid selection of vegan cakes, ice cream, and sorbet. We enjoyed the Black Sesame Sorbet.
The Black Forest Cake was moist and delicious.
Our dinner at Veggie Heaven was delightful. Everything tasted great and we even looked forward to having our leftovers another time. They offer so many different dishes that we could return several times to try something new. Another satisfying vegan meal that I truly enjoyed.
