Leaving Cleveland: Urban Farmer and a Polish Boy

My final night in Cleveland included a nice dinner at Lola and now I had a few hours to spare before heading to the airport. It was another gorgeous day and I walked over to Urban Farmer for a bite to eat. The rustic restaurant features Midwest fare using local, organic, farm to table ingredients.

The lunch menu offers a few sandwiches and I went with the Turkey Panini with a local greens salad. The focaccia panini had bacon, avocado, jack cheese, roasted poblano, and aioli. Nothing special, but it was good. The side salad was excellent.

After lunch, I wandered downtown for a bit. I stopped by The Arcade Cleveland, one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. The Arcade is considered to be one of the first indoor shopping malls in the United States.

The Victorian-era structure with a glass skylight was gorgeous.

I also walked around the Cleveland Public Square and stopped by the nearby Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument.

It was time to head to the airport. I walked back to the hotel to pick up my luggage then it was off to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. I stopped by Bar Symon for a bit before boarding my flight. I had time for one more local beer and another iconic dish.

I couldn’t leave without having a Polish Boy! The sausage sandwich is a Cleveland original and consists of a link of kielbasa placed in a bun and covered with french fries, coleslaw, and barbecue sauce or hot sauce.

Bar Symon’s version had a grilled kielbasa on a hoagie roll topped with rosemary fries, coleslaw, and shasha sauce – a tangy sauce made with banana peppers, garlic, mustard and vinegar. Good stuff! It took a while to come out though since my order was never put in.

I had a fabulous time in Cleveland. Great food, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the awesome art museum, solid craft beer, cocktails in old bank vaults, iconic eats, Progressive Field, and A Christmas Story House! Thank you, Cleveland!
