I have a couple more Summer trips to catch up on. At the end of July I made my way to another new city for food, craft beer, museums, and a baseball game – off to Pittsburgh!
I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn downtown near Market Square. It was a fabulous location within walking distance to lots of bars and restaurants.
I was in the mood for Italian, so for my first meal The ‘Burgh I ended up at DiAnoia’s Eatery. Located in the Strip District, the restaurant serves housemade pastas and Italian dishes, plus cocktails and wine.
When I walked in, there was a bit of a wait but they were nice enough to make room at the bar for me. A glass of white wine was in order.
The meal started of with a few slices of bread covering a small plate of olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
I loved the Branzino Crudo. The large slices of raw fish were dressed with some extra virgin olive oil, lemon, and sea salt.
All their pastas sounded really good. I decided to go with the classic Cacio e Pepe made with spaghetti, grana padano, pecorino romano, and black pepper. It was simple, but delicious.
My first meal in Pittsburgh at DiAnoia’s Eatery hit the spot. I didn’t have room for dessert, but I did have room for a couple more drinks. I made my way to the second floor of the Fairmont Pittsburgh for cocktails at Floor 2.
I took a seat at the large u-shaped bar. The space was casual and elegant. I ordered the tasty Summer Smash made with Woodford Reserve, blackberries, Grand Marnier, mint, and lemon. Cheers!
It was almost time to call it a night. I walked back towards the hotel, but decided to stop by City Works while passing through Market Square for one last drink. The large bar offers 90 craft beers on tap. I had a local brew and ended up meeting a fellow traveler and enjoying a nice cigar together.
It was time to call it a night for real. Back to the hotel for bed. My first night in Pittsburgh was lovely and I had a few more days to look forward to.
