It was a nice sunny Saturday in Pittsburgh, and after brunch and scenic views of the city, it was time to meet up with a childhood friend I haven’t seen in years! We met up at Cinderlands Beer Co. where we caught up over flights of their excellent house beers and crispy Spent Grain Chicharrones made with grains from the brewing process and served with a side a beer cheese. They supposedly do a tasty brunch as well.
Our next stop was 11th Hour Brewing Company. The 20 barrel brewhouse and tap room are located in the heart of Lawrenceville. They offer a solid variety of craft beer and you can grab a bite to eat from the daily food truck out front.
After enjoying some great beers, it was time to eat. We made our way to Smallman Galley, a communal food hall offering four eateries and two bars. My friend got the Pho from Banhmilicious and I had to try the Detroit-style pizza from Iron Born. The Red Pie with brick cheese, pepperoni, red top, 24-month parmigiana was absolutely incredible! Loved those crisp golden brown edges. They recently opened a second location in Millvale.
It was so cool to catch up with my friend from good ol’ Catholic school. She was nice enough to drop me off at my hotel and I decided to have a couple cocktails at The Warren nearby. The downtown bar focuses on craft cocktails, all priced at $10. They also offer food and sushi menus.
I had A Stone’s Throw described as crisp, apricot, and lime. I also tried the Toki Highball made with Suntory Toki Japanese whisky. I really enjoyed both.
What a fun day! I had one more day in Pittsburgh and I couldn’t wait to hit up a few more places and see the ballpark!
