Breakfast at Tandem Coffee + Bakery

It was my third day in Portland, Maine and a much easier morning since I actually went to bed before 5am. For breakfast I went to Tandem Coffee + Bakery, another spot featured in Bon Appetit’s article. When I arrived, there was a line out the door.

It was a gorgeous sunny day and I didn’t mind waiting. I had plenty of time before I had to go to the waterfront for a boat tour.

The line moved along nicely and I was inside the small cafe after 25 minutes or so. Located within a converted 1960s gas station, the vintage-style restaurant and bakery serves fresh baked pastries, breakfast sandwiches, and house-roasted coffee.

Getting closer and closer to the counter, everything looked fabulous. I seriously wanted to try it all. I stayed strong and stuck to one of their most popular items – the biscuits.

I ordered the Egg & Cheese Biscuit and Loaded Biscuit. I was so tempted to try their sticky bun as well, but passed on it. Looking back, I should have just gotten one because “treat yo self!”. I also got an herbal lemonade. My order was put on a tray and I brought it all to the large communal table.

The Loaded Biscuit had strawberry jam and creamy premium butter smothered on one of their round salted biscuits. It was pure buttery goodness.

The Egg & Cheese Biscuit was a yummy savory breakfast sandwich. I got mine with sausage. The thick fluffy eggs, gourmet sausage patty, and melted cheese are sandwiched between their square biscuits. So good!

My Tandem Bakery breakfast was delicious. The wait was worth it and I would return if I’m ever back in Portland. I seriously want to try some of those great looking pastries. Full and satisfied, it was time to head to the waterfront for a sightseeing tour of Casco Bay!
