One of the highlights during my long weekend in Portland, Maine was a fantastic tour of beautiful Casco Bay with Ribbit Adventures. There were a few boat tours to choose from, but Ribbit Adventures offers a unique vantage point of the sights while aboard a small Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RIB). It looked like so much fun!
I walked towards Fore Points Marina located at 58 Fore Street across the parking lot from the Maine Narrow Gauge Railway. It can be a bit tricky to find, but I spotted a couple other people walking that way and we saw Jennifer once we went inside the gate by the small gray marina building. She went over a few things and safety protocols then we put on our life vests and prepared to board.
Captain Randy introduced himself and helped each one of us into the boat. There are 5 passenger jockey seats plus a console bench in the front. I ended up sitting next to Capt. Randy and Jennifer sat up front. It was a clear sunny day and we were all set – off we went!
They’ll make sure your belongings are safely in the console bench up front. And you’ll want to hold on to your hats, sunglasses, and phone because the Ribbit One moves!
Our first couple stops included Bug Light and Spring Point Ledge. With a small boat and only a few people, we were able to get close to the lighthouses and sights for great photo opportunities. Jennifer and Capt. Randy were so nice and always made sure I had a chance to take my photos.
They were also very informative and would provide a brief history of the sights, islands, and other points of interests along the way. We spotted a couple lobster boats as well.
We passed by the historic Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth. Completed in 1791, it’s the oldest lighthouse in the state of Maine.
We saw a few islands and Fort Gorges. The tour runs 80-90 minutes and it was absolutely amazing. Our time out on the bay flew by and it was almost time to head back.
Touring Casco Bay with Ribbit Adventures was a blast! A huge thank you to Jennifer and Captain Randy for such a memorable afternoon in Portland. Riding a RIB was a unique sightseeing experience and I highly recommend it. Tours will resume in May, so make sure to reserve a seat for next Summer!
