I took time off in February for another hockey trip! The previous year, I met a friend in Las Vegas and California. This year I took a solo trip to St. Louis and Chicago. I’ve been to Chicago before, but it would be my first time traveling to Missouri. Off to St. Louis!
I arrived in the afternoon and checked in at my downtown hotel, the Hilton St. Louis Downtown at The Arch. The lobby was quite charming since the hotel is located in a former bank that was built in 1888.
All settled in and ready to grab a bite, I went to The Shaved Duck for lunch. The casual brick-walled restaurant and smokehouse specializes in barbecue and Southern specialties along with American craft beers. You may have seen it on an episode of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.
I took a seat at the bar and ordered a local brew.
I tried the slow-smoked Burnt Ends tossed in Black Isle barbecue sauce. Tasty stuff.
I also ordered the Duck Confit & Smoked Mozzarella Flatbread. I had to get something with duck. It was also topped with spinach, dried cranberries, and a sweet bourbon drizzle. The flatbread was on the crispier side, but it was a nice combination of flavors. Maybe try it with one of their housemade BBQ sauces.
My lunch at The Shaved Duck was brief, but pretty good. I hung out at the hotel before dinner later that night. I couldn’t wait to try a vegetable-forward tasting menu at one of the newer places in St. Louis.
