Dinner at The Olde Pink House

For my final night in Savannah, I made a dinner reservation at The Olde Pink House. The beautiful Colonial mansion was named for its shade of pink stucco that covers its old brick. It was built in 1771 for James Habersham Jr., a wealthy cotton planter and one of Savannah’s founding-family members.

I was seated at a table in one of the smaller rooms. The mansion was gorgeous and slightly eerie at the same time. It is a popular destination for ghost hunters and many people have claimed to see Mr. Habersham, who supposedly hanged himself in the basement in 1799, make appearances from time to time.

Anyways, I may have had a hearty sandwich for lunch, but I was ready to try some delicious southern cuisine for my final dinner in Savannah. For a drink, I had the Woodford Mule made with a special blend of Woodford Reserve bourbon, housemade ginger ale, and bitters served in a cold copper cup.

My server was a bit on the slow side. It took a while to take my order and he wasn’t as enthusiastic as the other servers of nearby tables. He didn’t tell me the specials or go over the history of the place. Only slightly deterred by the service, I enjoyed some warm  biscuits. I began things with the Pan Seared Jumbo Lump Crab Cake topped with a fried green tomato and a creamy and tart remoulade sauce with an arugula salad on the side. It was fantastic.

For my main, I decided to get the Crispy Scored Flounder with a sweet and savory apricot shallot sauce. Some Geechie Boy grits and collard greens came on the side. The fish was good and the sauce was tasty, I just wished the skin was much crispier.

I felt like indulging in something sweet, so I ordered the Pecan Pie. The warm pie had dark chocolate and a cinnamon pecan crust with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream, whipped cream, and chocolate drizzle.

I enjoyed my seafood dishes and bourbon cocktails at The Olde Pink House and the ambiance was beautiful. Service was mediocre and my monotone server seemed a bit distraught at times, but not enough to ruin the experience.

The Olde Pink House

I didn’t want to call it a night quite yet. I made plans to meet up with the guy I met at the Crystal Beer Parlor for some speakeasy cocktails.
