After indulging in a Primanti sandwich and burnt almond torte, it was time to head over to the ballpark. I walked over the Roberto Clement Bridge, also known as the Sixth Street Bridge, which is closed to vehicular traffic on game days and arrived at PNC Park.
It was really cool to walk down the center of the bridge and close in on the crowds of fans and festivities at the other end.
I didn’t head into the ballpark just yet, I still had time to pregame a bit. I went to Southern Tier Brewing Company nearby and enjoyed a flight of 5 of their beers.
I liked all of them – the Nu Skool IPA, Citra Hopped Live Pale Ale, 8 Days A Week Blonde Ale, the IPA, and Victory’s Blood Orange IPA.
Back to PNC Park! The classic-style ballpark is located along the shore of the Allegheny River and has incredible scenic views of the downtown skyline and riverfront.
I got to watch the Pittsburgh Pirates play the New York Mets from a seat in the Pittsburgh Baseball Club Level which offers a private concourse and access to three exclusive lounges.
Mets’ pitcher, Zack Wheeler, ended up pitching six scoreless innings and drove in the lone run of the game in the Mets’ 1-0 victory over the Pirates. While I was leaving the club, the nice woman near the doors gave me a poster to remember my first game at PNC. Thank you!
It was almost time to head to the airport, so I walked back towards the hotel and decided to make one last stop before catching my flight. PNC Park was awesome and has become one of my favorite ballparks!
I probably should have just picked up my luggage and made my way to the airport, but while walking back I passed täkÅ and couldn’t resist trying another iconic dish! The dimly lit taqueria serves inventive Mexican fare, creative tacos, and tasty margaritas.
I took a seat at the bar and ordered a classic Frozen Margarita. Soooo refreshing on that warm Summer day.
I was there to try their signature dish – the Tako Tacos. The flour tortillas were filled with grilled octopus, harissa aioli, baby lettuce, pico de gallo, grapefruit, fennel, and crispy chickpeas. They were delightful. The slightly charred octopus was tender and the aioli was tasty.
I’m glad I stopped by täkÅ for their margaritas and octopus tacos. It was a great pre-flight meal, even though I was now rushing to get to the airport.
I still made it to my gate with some time to spare. I had such a fantastic weekend in Pittsburgh! Looking foward to going back for a hockey game!
