A Seafood Lunch at Cervejaria Ramiro

After a wonderful time riding a Vespa around Lisbon, it was time for lunch. Cesar dropped me off at Cervejaria Ramiro. The well-known seafood restaurant is a favorite among tourist and locals.

There were only a few people waiting by the door when I arrived, so I was seated at a table upstairs in no time.

It’s all about the seafood here. I ordered a glass of Sagres beer. A light cold beer was super refreshing on such a hot sunny day. A plate of crusty buttered garlic bread was served soon after.

I looked over the menu and ended up trying 3 dishes. I started off with the Garlic Clams. The small clams were swimming in a flavorful broth with plenty of chopped garlic. The bread came in handy for soaking up all the tasty goodness.

One of their most famous dishes is the Edible Crab. The crab shell is filled with a tasty mixture of fatty brown meat and crab roe. Spread the delicious mixture on the bread and it’s like crab butter. Spectacular!

You’re also give a small white mallet to help break the claws and legs. The meat was so tender. There’s no shame in being loud and messy. Get at it! You might even hit a fellow diner sitting next to you with crab shell pieces and that’s okay.

Another dish that I had to try were the Gooseneck Barnacles. I’ve never had them before and I’m always down to try new foods. They’re really weird looking and resembled some sort of sea monster claw. Found attached to hard surfaces of ocean rocks, they are considered a delicacy in Portugal and Spain. The waiter showed me how to eat them. The taste was similar to a clam.

I was having a great time and loved the relaxed atmosphere. The waiters were funny and nice. Another beer please!

It was a lot of food for one person and I was full, but I couldn’t come all this way and not order “dessert”. Well, it’s more of a savory dish and it’s how many customers conclude their seafood meal. The prego is a simple Portuguese steak sandwich with thinly sliced beef with garlic on a soft roll. Don’t forget the mustard.

I was more than happy with my lunch at Ramiro. The seafood was fresh and tasty. All washed down with cold refreshing beer, it really hit the spot. I liked the laid back ambiance and service was great. I was loving my time in Lisbon so far! I still had the rest of the day ahead of me, so I stopped by my Airbnb apartment for a bit before making another foodie stop.
