Back to Toronto: Kōjin and Scotiabank Arena

Back in November I decided to return to one of my favorite cities for the Hockey Hall of Fame Induction of New Jersey Devils goaltender great, Martin Brodeur, as well as watch the Devils play at Scotiabank Arena and attend other special Hockey Hall of Fame events. Off to Toronto for a fun-filled hockey weekend!

After taking the convenient 25-minute UP Express train to downtown Toronto’s Union Station, I checked in to my hotel then went out for a bite to eat.

I decided to try Kōjin, a David Chang restaurant that celebrates the hearth and features a menu inspired by Executive Chef Paula Navarrete’s childhood in Colombia that uses local meats and produce from Ontario farmers and purveyors, all cooked over an open flame.

The multilevel building contains a few Momofuku eateries and Kojin is on the third floor. I sat at the bar and a cup of beef broth and Earl Gray tea was served soon after. Interesting.

I tried the Smoke and Mirrors cocktail made with tequila, yuzu, chamomile, and togarashi agave. I started with the Corn Flatbread with Drew’s Grass Fed Butter topped with spiced honey. It was a tasty start to my first meal in Toronto.

Then I ordered the Easton-Blend Burger with garlic mayo, red wine-braised onions, and a skirt of fried gruyere. It was yummy and served with a couple crispy onion rings.

I arrived in Toronto on a Friday and the hockey game was later that night. What was super cool about Induction Weekend was the Hockey Hall of Fame Game between the New Jersey Devils and Toronto Maple Leafs kicked it off! Before the game, I stopped by The Loose Moose for a few beers.

After a bit, I walked to Scotiabank Arena nearby. I picked up my ticket at the box office and caught the special ceremony introducing the 2018 Hockey Hall of Fame inductees before the game.

I had a great lower level seat where the Devils shoot twice. It’s my usual area when I go to games. The Devils lost, but it was still a good time as always. Another NHL arena crossed off the list!

After the game I went to a bar and hung out with a couple nice gentlemen that I met at The Loose Moose earlier. I also met a local Devils fan. Cheers, Toronto!
